Personal Entry No. 63
Sakura and Xiaolang from CCS

Look! It's what's left of the year-old requests! [livejournal.com profile] laury_kos is getting an updated illustration, since the old one was starting to look horrible, [livejournal.com profile] rainmage's is...actually pretty finished, and [livejournal.com profile] makwui's has been redrawn and is undergoing the long "lineart-replacement" process. [livejournal.com profile] mina_akira's and [livejournal.com profile] dropsofviolet's requests have already been uploaded to Pixiv, and there's something else in the works for [livejournal.com profile] lady_kikyou, too. Whew!

Now, last Valentine's Day I posted a selection of seasonal songs. I'd like to do such again, but since I'm a little more short on new works, here's something else to distract you!

This is an aerokinetic sculpture constructed by Theo Jansen, a Dutch sculptor who specializes in creating artificial "organisms" that are powered by wind and move about on their own.

And now for some music!

The above two pieces aren't exactly about romance, but they are centered on other versions of love.

Note: the lyrics to "Kazamidori" are absolutely beautiful. Maaya's performance of this song was much better on her "Kazeyomi" album, but I put the live version here due to how much more emotion she shows during the performance.

...I'm not quite an Edith Piaf fan, but I thought it would be interesting to compare her rendition of "Autumn Leaves" to that of Nat King Cole (who, as always, is a great joy to listen to!).

I hope you all had a great day today -- even if this year we can't combine Valentine's Day with the Lunar New Year celebrations!

Happy Valentine's Day! What an adorable picture, they look so happy together. ♥

I love Always with me, I don't think I'll ever get tired of that song. Also, Maaya Sakamoto has such a lovely voice - I hadn't heard the live version of that song before but it's really beautiful!

Thank you!

I had no idea Maaya Sakamoto performed that song live until yesterday, so you can imagine how happy I was when I found it.

Here's to a happy day to you, since I don't care much for Valentine's Day ♥

Interestingly enough, Muslim authorities in my country banned Muslims from celebrating Valentine's Day. Apparently this has happened in a lot of other Islamic countries as well? I know V-day is a marketing gimmick, but this kind of reaction is bordering on paranoia, don't you think? Moral corruption and immoral acts, pffft, they're just trying to cleanse us all of the Western influence and turn their followers into religious zealots once more. The funny thing though, is how the Chinese and Indians here are still (technically allowed) celebrating V-day, and all the others have to sit and glare daggers at their backs because of all the hoo-hah surrounding this issue lmfao!

Thank you! I...didn't do much yesterday, anyway, but it's a nice excuse to spread cheer throughout the f-list.

I read that the Iranian government, at least, had banned the celebration of Valentine's Day, but didn't know that it was banned for Muslims living in more multicultural countries, as well (i.e., countries without theocracies). Valentine's Day really is just a ploy to get people to buy more chocolate and flowers and such (very few people know anything about St. Valentine, and he might not have existed), but I suppose the heavy theme of Western Capitalist Immorality related to the holiday was deemed a danger to the faith.

I am sorry that you didn't fare well in this update. D: Weirdly enough, the image at the top of the post was another draft of your request , but in the end the layout wasn't working out well enough.

I'm glad you liked the music!

That's a lot of soft music! Maaya's songs are hit or miss with me, but I really liked Kazamidori.

What's up with Dutch artists and their crazy-cool works? XD The giant rubber duck guy was also from that country IIRC.

Also HOLY SHIT, my gift looks so so so amazing now that it's almost finished! The colors are so pretty! ♥♥

I hadn't heard of the giant rubber duck before, and one of the first links I found after searching for it had a size comparison chart with giant robots. That duck stands among the giants.

Thank you so much! It's been hard trying to keep Waka from turning into straight Minamoto no Yoshitsune, but I think the fruity eye makeup and rabbit helmet helped. (Did you spot Ammy?)

LOL, really? Not gonna lie, but as cool as those real-size Gundam replicas that are so in in Japan might be, the almighty duck awes me more. It's probably the cute.

OMG, I hadn't notice Ammy until you pointed out! That's even more awesome! And yeah, there's something very fruity in everything that makes him totally Waka and not Yoshitsune with dyed hair. I think you've managed to do that with all the geeky details IMO.
